Quickly Change the Colour of your Renders.

Often when creating concepts, the client will want to see multiple colour variations, or will provide the exact colour codes to use for the renders.

If you were to individually render each colour variation, in multiple views this would waste a lot of time, and as an Industrial Designer, it's extremely important to be as efficient with our time as possible!

If you want the short version check out the YouTube video below :

So, to avoid wasting loads of your valuable time here's what to do :

1 : Create one render of each view that is required.

2 : Open the image in Photoshop.

3: Use the object select tool to make a selection of the parts of the product that need colour variations.

4 : Right click and select " Make Work Path " and press okay, this will create a path of your selection, so if you ever need to reselect it, you can access the selection through the paths menu.

5 : From the Paths menu, right click the created path and make selection.

6 : Create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer for your rendered image.

7 : Turn the saturation to -100.

8 : Create a new layer and place it above your Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, then right click on your new layer and create a clipping mask.

9 : Ensure the blend option is changed from Normal to Overlay on the new layer.

10 : Use the colour picker to select the required colour, it helps to have all of your reference colours on screen.

11 : Use the "x" key to ensure the select colour is the background colour, then press " Command + Backspace " to fill the layer with the background colour.

12 : This will change the colour of the selected part, now you can repeat for all required colours; creating a new layer for each colour.

In Conclusion, this will speed up your design process if you're required to present multiple colour variations of your concepts, just render your initial views and adjust the colours within Photoshop.
